 Minutes

  • Administrator’s Report: Elaine Gaffney/Kelly Foyle 
    • Student council breakfast after mass Wednesday 1/28
    • Play is Feb 27-29
    • Cultural inclusion of parents. Met 1/10 with 2 students to discuss ways to grow the celebration of school diversity.
      • Students brought up concerns of racism. Students are presenting concerns about racism and are requesting help from parents and teachers to address issues of racism. Next meeting of cultural club is 1/31. 
        • FSA rep will attend next C&I meeting 
      • April 1st is the goal to break ground on the Capital Campaign. The construction should be completed within a year; date to break ground is still not definite.

      • FSA social media/vaping presentations for Jr. High

      • Athletic Board is brining in partner: Sports Brain to advise on concussion protocol.
        • Parents expressed questions on Sports Brain’s role and the importance of primary care doctor follow
        • Athletic Board encourages all parents to research vendor and bring question to workshop
        • Sport Brain workshop TBD: Athletic Board to share info with FSA and FSA will disseminate through all channels
    • Art Fair: Erin Konrath / Jessica Scheller/Mel LaGiglia 4/24-26
      • Erin passing on Art Fair but staying for the transition to Jessica Scheller and Mel LaGiglia.
      • Same format as last year.  Ms. Malinowski will also continue to be involved. 
      • May try to award some of the artwork. Possibly work with the Beverly Arts Alliance.
      • Other ways to make money at the Art Fair: 1) donation box, 2) raffle basket, 3) split the pot
      • Trying to help push Young Authors more to the forefront.
      • Discussion of school owning the Art Fair
    • Young Authors now headed by Erin Shea and Eileen Stoiber 
    • Book Fair: Mary Morgan/ Heather Wills/Lakeishia Hayes/ Carolyn Burke 
      • Will be held in the Church Basement 4/24-26
    • Hospitality: Lauren Skerrett
      • Catholic Schools Week, Teacher Appreciation Day is the next event
    • Father Daughter dance (Sweetheart Soiree);
      • used the decorations from the 8th grade dance- this saved lots of time and money.
      • Already asked 8th graders to save the decorations from this year. 
      • Decorations were then donated to another school.
      • Ticket sales through Membership toolkit worked well. 
      • Reduced the food purchase but might need to adjust up for next year. 
      • Need final $$ amount.
      • Need to identify a leader for next year’s committee so we can have a transition meeting.
    • Programs: Megan Curran-Hurless / Noelle Carson 
      • Wheel of Wisdom is all set up for 1/27.
      • Earth Day program in March booked (full school).
    • Spirit Day: Elise Brand / Nora Gill
      • Entertainment booked but need to start discussing alternative layouts in light of ground-breaking on construction.
    • Eat and Earn: Julie Perfetti / Lauren Doig
      • Milanos 11/25 and 11/26
      • Buona event on 1/31 only earned $60.
    • Fun Food 1/31.
      • Orders through Membership Toolkit; due 1/26.
    • Baldricks 3/7/20 – Jess McCarihan –
      • program in honor of Pat MacNamara; SB student who lost his life to pediatric cancer.
      • All funds support pediatric cancer research. 
      • Separate permission slip just for face painting going home this year.  Volunteers.  $50 minimum contribution for face painting or shaving.
      • Going to need lots of volunteers; will use membership toolkit.
    • MARKET DAY
      • Need a someone to chair
      • We need to decide if we are going to push this. How to push?

    • Catholic Schools week agenda (Open House 1/26)
    • Mother/Son outing 2/16/20 at Bourbon Street.

    • Parrazolo cannot do Jump Rope for Heart. Does FSA want to take it on? 
      • There doesn’t seem to be a person to run the event. Rachel will respond.

    • 7th and 8th graders will be offered electives (dancing, baking, etc)
    • Jr High will participate in a Drug Awareness Program
    • Break ground is currently scheduled for April 1 for the Capital Campaign. 
    • Halloween Parade Route has been changed

      • Membership Tool Kit helpful hints will be sent out to assist with signing up
      • FSA Board offered suggestion to the administration to consider a  Volunteer Code of Conduct.
      • Member suggestion: Add Volunteer Code of Conduct to the Handbook 
  2. Treasurer’s Report: Moira Benton
    • Use the tax-free exemption when purchasing items for events
    • Reiterate you will not be reimbursed for taxes. Make you use the Tax Exempt form
    • Please get your receipts in within seven days.  We are trying to close out back to school events and needs costs in.
    • Please check with Moira for you committee's budget. There is an expense/revenue (if applicable) target for every event.

      • Suggestion: Dicussion surrounding 1:30 dissmissals before 1/2 day, especially in Oct coming off of PT conferences.

      • Reinforcing registration payments. No pay/No play

      • First Fun Food is Thursday 10/31
      • Online orders will be taken this year via Membership toolkit
      • Those wishing to order via cash or check will need to print their own order form. They will not be sent home.

    • Send out class ideas to classroom liaisons onto parents.
    • Looking for more parent / teacher involvement
    • Advertise/Promote classes earlier
    • Explore HS students teaching a class- is this feasible?  Would be need a "supervising adult"?
    • Working with School Administration to address “incident protocol”

Updates from the committees:

FSA liaison from the school board – Nicole O’Brien

  •               Info Sunday new format was successful
  •               Back to school night
  •               Working with FSA and athletic board for Fall Fest
  • FB page – please don’t mention teachers by name; teachers can’t defend themselves. Remember there are two pages

FSA liaison from the Athletic Board – John Chatz

  • The athletic board manages sports for the school and the parish.  Each sport has 1 manager who attends the meetings.  Board will start posting athletic info including teams and schedules on the website. 
  • If you have an issue with a coach, please go to the team liaison first (Krista Ganat); info will be posted on the website.
  •               Athletic board funded a new scorers’ table and the new gym floor
  • Working on getting new banners for the gym à what to do with the old banners? Possibly an auction?
  • New code of conduct, primarily for 6th-8th grade.  Code is posted; main idea is that being an athlete is second to being a student.
  •         Team Snap- board will follow up; looking into getting a school-wide membership

After School Enrichment – Katrina Murrihy

  • Membership toolkit gives access to all vendors
  •               Outside vendors: if there aren’t enough enrollees, they will cancel the class
  •               Working on getting more locations/solidifying locations for ASE classes
  •               Working on getting a system in place to make sure the enrollees get to their classes
  •               Suggestions?  Want to teach a class? Email Katrina or Sarah at ase@stbarnabasparish.org

Art Fair – 4/25/2-0 and 4/26/20

  •               Working on getting the outside vendor contracted

Book Fair is also 4/23-4/26

Big Bucks for Teachers – Up to 14 tickets

  •               School gets 1 cent per top, can be scanned from an app
  •               Date for 1st collection?
  •               How will the scanning affect the student contests?

Faculty/Staff Stocking Stuffer

  •               November cash collection – provides a bonus for the staff and administration

Father-Daughter Dance – January 17th

  • 6th Grade, no report yet.  Dance is managed by the 6th grade parents.
  •               Anita Snow and Nicole O'Brien volunteered to head up the committee.
  •               Suggestion: re-use the 8th grade dance decorations

Fun Food – Jeanne Byrne

  •               3 xs/yr, local vendors, raises money for FSA
  •               Open to suggestions of locations, will accommodate allergies
  •               Need helpers

Hospitality – Lauren Skerrett

  •               Back to School Coffee was a success
  •               10/10 lunch for faculty (Thursday) during conferences and snacks on Wednesday 10/9
  •               Needs a committee

SB eats out – Julie Perfetti and Lauren Doig

  •               Week-long 10/7-10/11 at American Dog and Burger (ADB) on 96th and Western
  •               Just mention St. Barnabas and SB gets 5% backHow frequently?  Keller did 1/month.

Breast Cancer Walk and Mother-Son Outing

  •               Bernadette Barsch and Megan Hurless will be seeking help at a later date

New Parent Committee – Amber Chatellier

  •               Happened at the park, successful event, luau theme
  •               New parent night set up
  •               Looking for new people to join, looking for feed back

Pat Mac’s Pack – Jessica McCarihan and Colleen Cooney

  •               March 6 in gym during school for students and fundraiser that night, in gym, for adults only
  •               Raises money for Pat Mac’s Pack/St. Baldrick’s (Pediatric cancer)
  • Streamlining ways to pay this yearà Face tattoos will be through regular permission slip but head shaving will be all on-line

Programs – Noelle Carson and Megan Hurless

  •               Aim to bring in educational programs to all grade levels
  •               Next:  Parenting the iGen will be 9/26 for students and at night in church hall for parents
  •               Future events:  Wheel of wisdom, 8th grade dance class

School Musical – Lynn DeHoyos

  •               5th-8th grade cast and crew, dates are 2/7-2/9, to be announced Wednesday at mass
  •               Auditions are week of 10/7, rehearsals start right after call backs
  • Parents of the kids in the play become the committee, Mark Murphy and Jen Lee run the cast and crew and will work with Kevin.  Sasha Rashidi is outside musical director.

  • Info went out with back to school info, all on-line in membership toolkit, no printed directory this year
  •               Membership toolkit: have to be a member to access
  •               Will send another email blast through the class liaisons

Skating party – Carly Hurd and Katie Rao planned

  •               8th graders acted as helpers
  •               Garbage collection at end of party was an issue

Spirit Wear

  • next big sale around Christmas and then before Spirit day

Volunteer Coordinator – Shannon Griffin

  •               Evolving process, trying to find a better way to communicate w/ volunteers
  •               Fall fest is a different platform because volunteering was open to the parish
  •               Can track payments for yearbooks, etc.

Yearbooks – Sandy Czajkowsky and Allison Kiper– 2018-2019 books went home today (9/19)

Young Authors – Noelle Carson

  • K-8th grade participants, books displayed during the Art Fair/Book Fair usually in the gym with the art
  •               Student Council reads all the books and chooses the winners for different categories

 

What do the next 4 weeks hold?

              Fall Fest- Volunteers NEEDED, especially set up

              Howl at the Moon – Anita Snow for 10/19 event

                             In the gym, dueling pianos, will benefit the capital campaign

                             Tickets for sale at fall fest and parent teacher conferences

                             Can buy a table (6) or single tickets and there are premium tables available

Thoughts on advertising the Virtus training to the new families/Pre-k parents earlier (like maybe at registration) so that they do not miss out on early events?

 

 

 


 

SEPTEMBER FSA MEETING 

 

We invite all parents to our first FSA Meeting of the year on Thursday 9/19 at 7:30pm on the Rectory Porch.  Our hope is that you’ll enjoy seeing old friends but also meet a few new ones;  explore opportunities to stay involved , to get involved, or get involved in something new; most importantly to have some fun!
